Summary
CVE-2026-12753 is a high-severity unauthenticated SQL injection vulnerability affecting the Advance Product Search – Voice & Ajax Search for WooCommerce plugin by ThemeHunk, all versions up to and including 1.4.4. The flaw allows any remote, unauthenticated attacker to extract sensitive data directly from the WordPress/WooCommerce database. With over 10,000 active installations, the attack surface is significant and immediate patching is required.
Technical details
- Root cause: Insufficient escaping of user-supplied input combined with a lack of prepared statements in the plugin’s search query handler (
thaps-function.php). Raw string interpolation was used instead of parameterized queries, leaving the SQL query open to manipulation. - Trigger conditions: No authentication, special privileges, or user interaction are required. The vulnerability is exploitable by sending a crafted HTTP request to the plugin’s publicly accessible AJAX search endpoint.
- Affected parameters: The
s(search term) andmatchparameters are both injectable. - Attack vector: Network-accessible (AV:N); low attack complexity (AC:L); no privileges required (PR:N); no user interaction (UI:N).
- Impact: Successful exploitation allows an attacker to append arbitrary SQL to existing database queries, enabling extraction of sensitive information including WordPress user credentials (hashed passwords), WooCommerce customer orders, billing addresses, and other personally identifiable information (PII) stored in the database. Integrity and availability are not directly affected (I:N, A:N).
Affected software
- ThemeHunk Advance Product Search – Voice & Ajax Search for WooCommerce (WordPress slug:
th-advance-product-search), all versions ≤ 1.4.4
Severity
- CVSS v3.1 Base Score: 7.5 (HIGH)
- Vector String:
CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N
Mitigation and recommended actions
- Immediate action – update the plugin: Upgrade to version 1.4.5 or later (current release: 1.4.7). Version 1.4.5 explicitly resolves this vulnerability by replacing raw LIKE string interpolation with
$wpdb->prepare()parameterized queries. Version 1.4.6 includes an additional security enhancement. The latest available version, 1.4.7, is recommended. - If immediate patching is not possible:
- Restrict access to the plugin’s AJAX search endpoint at the web server or WAF level to trusted IP ranges.
- Audit recent database query logs for anomalous SQL patterns involving the
sandmatchparameters. - Consider temporarily deactivating the plugin until patching can be applied.
IONIX Status
The IONIX research team is tracking ongoing exploitation attempts and recommends immediate patching. Potentially affected assets are outlined in this post.
