Summary

CVE-2026-47368 is a high-severity Path Traversal vulnerability in Ubiquiti’s UniFi OS, the operating system powering a wide range of Ubiquiti network devices including Dream Machines, Network Video Recorders, Cloud Keys, Cloud Gateways, and NAS appliances. With a CVSS v3.1 base score of 8.6 (High), the flaw allows an unauthenticated attacker with network access to read arbitrary data from affected devices. The vulnerability was discovered by Brandon Rossi and publicly disclosed by Ubiquiti in June 2026.

Technical details

  • Root cause: Improper validation and sanitization of file path inputs within the UniFi OS Server web interface, enabling directory traversal sequences to escape the intended file access scope.
  • Trigger conditions: An unauthenticated attacker with network-level access to the device’s management interface can send a specially crafted HTTP/HTTPS request containing path traversal sequences to traverse outside the permitted directory.
  • Attack vector: Network (AV:N), no authentication required (PR:N), no user interaction needed (UI:N), low attack complexity (AC:L).
  • Impact: Confidentiality is fully compromised (C:H); the Scope is Changed (S:C), meaning the impact extends beyond the vulnerable component itself, potentially exposing sensitive data from other parts of the device’s filesystem — including configuration files, credentials, and private keys. There is no direct integrity (I:N) or availability (A:N) impact from this vulnerability alone.
  • Chaining risk: The vulnerability can be chained with other vulnerabilities addressed in the same Ubiquiti advisory to escalate the overall attack impact.

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • Immediate action — apply vendor patches:
    • Update to UniFi OS 5.1.15 or later (UDM, UDM-Pro, UDR, UNVR, UCK, UCG, and related series)
    • Update to UniFi OS 5.1.16 or later (UNAS-2, UNAS-4, UNAS-Pro, UNAS-Pro-4, UNAS-Pro-8)
    • Update to UniFi OS 4.0.15 or later (UniFi Express)
  • If immediate patching is not possible:
    • Restrict network access to the UniFi OS management interface to trusted IP addresses only using firewall rules.
    • Ensure UniFi OS management interfaces are not directly exposed to the public internet.
    • Monitor access logs for anomalous path traversal patterns in incoming HTTP requests.
