Summary

CVE-2026-48310 is a high-severity Path Traversal vulnerability (CWE-22) in Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), affecting AEM as a Cloud Service releases up to 2026.5.0, AEM 6.5 LTS Service Pack 1 and earlier, and AEM 6.5 Service Pack 24 and earlier. An unauthenticated remote attacker can exploit this flaw to read arbitrary files outside the intended directory scope, with no user interaction required. The vulnerability carries a CVSS v3.1 base score of 8.6 (High).

Technical details

  • Root cause: Improper limitation of a pathname to a restricted directory (CWE-22), allowing traversal sequences to escape the intended file system boundary within AEM’s request handling.
  • Trigger conditions: No authentication, no user interaction, and no special configuration required — the vulnerability is exploitable against a default, internet-exposed AEM instance.
  • Attack vector: Network-accessible over HTTP/HTTPS; AEM is widely deployed as an internet-facing content management platform, making remote exploitation straightforward for an attacker who can reach the service.
  • Impact: Arbitrary file system read. An attacker can access sensitive files and directories outside the intended access scope on the underlying server. The CVSS Scope metric is Changed (S:C), indicating the vulnerability can impact components beyond AEM itself — such as configuration files, credentials, or data belonging to co-located services — compounding the confidentiality risk.

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • AEM as a Cloud Service: Update to Release 2026.6.0 or later. Cloud Service customers on continuous delivery typically receive this update automatically; confirm your current release version in the Cloud Manager console.
  • AEM 6.5 LTS: Apply Service Pack 2 (includes Hotfix NPR-43972).
  • AEM 6.5: Apply Service Pack 25 (includes Hotfix NPR-43971).
  • If immediate patching is not feasible, restrict external network access to AEM instances at the perimeter and apply egress filtering to limit the reachability of sensitive file paths on the underlying host.
  • Adobe has rated this vulnerability Priority 3 and has stated it is not aware of active exploitation in the wild at time of publication.
