Summary
CVE-2026-70403 is a Use of Hard-coded Password vulnerability (CWE-259) affecting the XING CPTrans-ME-X, a communication adapter used with JOYSOUND business karaoke equipment to provide LTE connectivity. Firmware versions prior to 1.8.1.17 embed a fixed credential that allows anyone who knows it to log in to the device’s administrative interface. The flaw is rated CRITICAL with a CVSS v3.0 base score of 9.8.
Technical details
- Root cause: The device firmware contains a hard-coded password embedded in the software, rather than requiring a unique or administrator-set credential.
- Trigger conditions: No special conditions are required beyond network access to the device’s administrative interface; the attacker need only possess or discover the hard-coded credential.
- Attack vector: Network (remote, unauthenticated) — CVSS vector indicates no privileges or user interaction are required.
- Impact: Successful login grants unauthorized administrative access to the device, with potential for full compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected unit.
Affected software
- XING CPTrans-ME-X firmware — all versions prior to 1.8.1.17
Severity
- CVSS v3.0 Base Score: 9.8 (CRITICAL)
- Vector:
AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H - (A CVSS v4.0 score of 9.3 is also recorded for this CVE)
Mitigation and recommended actions
- Immediate: Update the CPTrans-ME-X firmware to version 1.8.1.17 or later, which was distributed via FOTA (firmware-over-the-air) starting April 2026. This update disables the administrative port by default and restricts available commands to maintenance-only functions.
- If patching is not immediately possible: Restrict network access to the device’s administrative port/interface, and verify the device is not exposed to untrusted networks or the public internet until the firmware update is applied.
- Contact the vendor (JOYSOUND/XING) to confirm the installed firmware version and FOTA update status for deployed units.
