Summary
CVE-2026-87174 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Security component of Oracle Hyperion Financial Management (HFM). It allows an unauthenticated, network-based attacker to compromise the application over TCP, gaining unauthorized access to sensitive financial data and the ability to insert, update, or delete some accessible data. Oracle rates the flaw as "easily exploitable," and it carries a CVSS v3.1 base score of 8.2 (High).
Technical details
- Root cause: A flaw in the Security component of Oracle Hyperion Financial Management that fails to properly enforce authentication/authorization before granting access to protected functionality or data.
- Trigger conditions: No authentication credentials or user interaction are required; the attacker only needs network access to the TCP service exposed by the affected HFM instance.
- Attack vector: Network (remote), low attack complexity, no privileges required, no user interaction — making it viable for automated/opportunistic exploitation against internet- or network-exposed instances.
- Impact: High confidentiality impact (unauthorized access to critical data, potentially complete access to all HFM-accessible data) and low integrity impact (unauthorized update, insert, or delete of some accessible data). No availability impact is reported.
Affected software
- Oracle Hyperion Financial Management, version 11.2.26.0.000

Mitigation and recommended actions
- Immediate: Apply the Oracle patch for Oracle Hyperion Financial Management released in the September 2026 Critical Security Patch Update (CSPU). Organizations should update to the fixed release identified in that advisory as soon as possible.
- If patching cannot be applied immediately:
- Restrict network access to Hyperion Financial Management’s TCP service to trusted hosts/networks only (e.g., via firewall rules, network segmentation, or VPN-only access) to reduce exposure to unauthenticated remote attackers.
- Monitor HFM server logs and network traffic for anomalous or unauthenticated connection attempts to the affected service.
- Follow Oracle’s general guidance to apply Critical Patch Update/Critical Security Patch Update fixes promptly, as Oracle does not issue patches for individual bugs outside of these scheduled updates.
