CVE-2026-88893 – Unauthenticated Information Disclosure (Password Hash & Report Exposure) – OpenPane

Be the first to know when new zero-days emerge:

Summary

CVE-2026-88893 is an unauthenticated information disclosure vulnerability in OpenPanel, an open-source web and product analytics platform. Three unauthenticated share-lookup procedures fail to enforce access controls, allowing anyone holding a share link to retrieve the argon2id password hash protecting that share as well as the full underlying report, dashboard, or overview definition. The issue is rated High severity (CVSS 8.7) and requires no authentication or user interaction to exploit.

Technical details

  • Root cause: The share.report, share.dashboard, and share.overview procedures query the database with findUnique without restricting selected columns, so the stored argon2id password hash for the share is included in the response. In addition, share.report unconditionally returns the full report definition (event names, filters, breakdown dimensions) even while reporting hasAccess: false, bypassing the public/password gate implemented in sibling procedures.
  • Trigger conditions: An attacker only needs a valid share link/identifier for a dashboard, overview, or report; no session, API key, or share password is required to trigger the disclosure.
  • Attack vector: Network — the flaw is reachable via unauthenticated API/tRPC calls exposed by the OpenPanel backend.
  • Impact: Disclosure of argon2id password hashes (enabling offline password cracking) and exposure of private report/dashboard configurations, which can support further intelligence gathering or unauthorized access to protected shares.

Affected software

  • OpenPanel — all released versions are affected; no patched version was available at the time of public disclosure.

Severity

  • CVSS v4.0 Base Score: 8.7 (High) — CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N
  • CVSS v3.1 Base Score: 7.5 (High) — CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • Immediate: No official patched version was available at disclosure time. Monitor the OpenPanel project for a fix release and upgrade as soon as one is published.
  • Workarounds (until patched):
    • Treat all existing share-link passwords as compromised and rotate/reset them.
    • Disable or restrict public sharing of dashboards, overviews, and reports where feasible until a fix is available.
    • Restrict network exposure of the OpenPanel API to trusted networks (e.g., VPN, IP allow-listing) to reduce the ability of unauthenticated internet-based attackers to reach share endpoints.
    • Monitor share-endpoint access logs for anomalous or bulk lookup activity indicating enumeration attempts.

How IONIX’s External Exposure Management Platform Detects and Validates
Zero-Days to Shrink MTTR

1

Map your entire attack surface (continously)

IONIX uses multi-factor discovery methods, including DNS analysis, certificate mapping, metadata inspection, and more, to automatically map every internet-facing asset across your environment. This includes cloud instances, third-party platforms, shadow IT, and even forgotten infrastructure that traditional tools miss.

2

Monitor for new CVEs

Dozens of threat intel feeds using agentic technology are continuously analyzed to detect the appearance of proof-of-concept code, exploit kits, and indicators of active targeting. IONIX goes further by applying AI to proactively evaluate whether emerging vulnerabilities are likely to be exploited, even before PoCs go public.

3

Identify Potential External Exposures

Not all CVEs matter. IONIX filters vulnerabilities by asking attacker-centric questions: Can it be reached from the internet? Does it require authentication? Is it being exploited in the wild? This dramatically reduces noise and focuses teams on threats that can actually be weaponized.

4

Create Safe, Scalable Exploit Validations

IONIX transforms real-world PoCs into safe, non-intrusive test payloads that can be run in production environments without disruption. These simulations are precisely targeted to the systems that are vulnerable, ensuring rapid validation without unnecessary load.

5

Execute Exploit Validations

By combining context about software stack, versioning, exposure status, and reachability, IONIX ensures that only the right payloads are executed against the right assets, maximizing efficiency and minimizing risk.

6

Drive Fast and Actionable Remediation

Results are routed through integrations with ticketing, SOAR, and SIEM tools. Issues are written in plain language, bundled into remediation clusters, and prioritized based on asset criticality, exploitability, and blast radius. This shortens mean time to remediation (MTTR) and empowers teams to act with confidence.
