CVE-2026-89174 – Authentication Bypass via Brute-Force (Account Takeover) – Kingdom Communication As

Be the first to know when new zero-days emerge:

Summary

CVE-2026-89174 is a missing brute-force protection vulnerability (CWE-307: Improper Restriction of Excessive Authentication Attempts) affecting Kingdom Communication Associated’s Smart Video Intercom System product line. The flaw allows an unauthenticated, remote attacker to gain access to valid user accounts by submitting a large number of login attempts without being throttled, locked out, or otherwise blocked. It was published on September 11, 2026, and carries a CVSS v4.0 base score of 8.7 (High).

Technical details

  • Root cause: Affected device firmware does not enforce rate limiting, account lockout, or CAPTCHA-style controls on the authentication endpoint, permitting unlimited repeated login attempts.
  • Trigger conditions: An attacker only needs network reachability to the device’s login interface; no prior authentication or user interaction is required.
  • Attack vector: Network (remote) — the attacker sends repeated credential-guessing requests directly to the exposed intercom system’s login service.
  • Impact: Successful exploitation grants the attacker access to a valid user account on the intercom system, potentially exposing video/audio intercom functionality, configuration data, and access-control features tied to the compromised account. The vulnerability was disclosed alongside two related issues (account enumeration and a client-side authentication bypass) in the same product line, which could compound exploitation.

Affected software

  • Kingdom Communication Associated EH3040 — versions prior to 2.5.0A
  • Kingdom Communication Associated EH4200 — versions prior to 2.5.0A
  • Kingdom Communication Associated EH1000B — versions prior to 2.7.0A
  • Kingdom Communication Associated EH2070 — versions prior to 2.8.0A

Severity

  • CVSS v4.0: 8.7 (High) — AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N
  • CVSS v3.1: 7.5 (High) — AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • Immediate: Update affected devices to the patched firmware versions:
    • EH3040 and EH4200 → 2.5.0A or later
    • EH1000B → 2.7.0A or later
    • EH2070 → 2.8.0A or later
  • If patching is not immediately possible:
    • Restrict network exposure of intercom login/management interfaces — do not expose them directly to the internet; place them behind a VPN or firewall with strict access control lists.
    • Monitor and alert on repeated failed authentication attempts against these devices where logging is available.
    • Enforce strong, unique credentials on all intercom accounts to reduce the practical success rate of brute-force attempts.
    • Segment intercom/access-control systems from general corporate networks to limit blast radius if an account is compromised.

How IONIX’s External Exposure Management Platform Detects and Validates
Zero-Days to Shrink MTTR

1

Map your entire attack surface (continously)

IONIX uses multi-factor discovery methods, including DNS analysis, certificate mapping, metadata inspection, and more, to automatically map every internet-facing asset across your environment. This includes cloud instances, third-party platforms, shadow IT, and even forgotten infrastructure that traditional tools miss.

2

Monitor for new CVEs

Dozens of threat intel feeds using agentic technology are continuously analyzed to detect the appearance of proof-of-concept code, exploit kits, and indicators of active targeting. IONIX goes further by applying AI to proactively evaluate whether emerging vulnerabilities are likely to be exploited, even before PoCs go public.

3

Identify Potential External Exposures

Not all CVEs matter. IONIX filters vulnerabilities by asking attacker-centric questions: Can it be reached from the internet? Does it require authentication? Is it being exploited in the wild? This dramatically reduces noise and focuses teams on threats that can actually be weaponized.

4

Create Safe, Scalable Exploit Validations

IONIX transforms real-world PoCs into safe, non-intrusive test payloads that can be run in production environments without disruption. These simulations are precisely targeted to the systems that are vulnerable, ensuring rapid validation without unnecessary load.

5

Execute Exploit Validations

By combining context about software stack, versioning, exposure status, and reachability, IONIX ensures that only the right payloads are executed against the right assets, maximizing efficiency and minimizing risk.

6

Drive Fast and Actionable Remediation

Results are routed through integrations with ticketing, SOAR, and SIEM tools. Issues are written in plain language, bundled into remediation clusters, and prioritized based on asset criticality, exploitability, and blast radius. This shortens mean time to remediation (MTTR) and empowers teams to act with confidence.
