Summary

CVE-2026-48886 is a critical unauthenticated SQL injection vulnerability in the JS Help Desk WordPress plugin (slug: js-support-ticket), affecting all versions up to and including 3.0.9. With a CVSS v3.1 base score of 9.3, this flaw allows remote, unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious SQL commands and extract sensitive data directly from the WordPress database, with no credentials or user interaction required.

Technical details

  • Root cause: The plugin’s request handler accepts user-supplied input that is incorporated into SQL queries without adequate sanitization, parameterization, or use of WordPress’s prepared statement API — a pattern consistent with CWE-89 (Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an SQL Command).
  • Trigger conditions: Any unauthenticated HTTP request to the vulnerable plugin endpoint; Attack Complexity is Low (AC:L), meaning no special conditions or race conditions are needed.
  • Attack vector: Network-accessible (AV:N); no authentication (PR:N) and no victim interaction (UI:N) are required, making this trivially exploitable from the internet.
  • Impact: The vulnerability has a Changed Scope (S:C) with High Confidentiality impact (C:H), enabling extraction of sensitive WordPress database contents including user credentials, personally identifiable information (PII), and application configurations. A Low Availability impact (A:L) is also present.

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • Immediate — apply the vendor patch: Update the JS Help Desk plugin to version 3.1.0 or later, which contains the fix for this vulnerability. This is the only complete remediation.
  • If immediate patching is not possible:
    • Deactivate the JS Help Desk plugin entirely until the update can be applied.
    • Restrict access to the plugin’s vulnerable endpoints at the server or network perimeter level.
    • Deploy Web Application Firewall (WAF) rules targeting SQL injection patterns to block exploitation attempts while the patch is being scheduled.
