CVE-2026-15896 – Unauthenticated Arbitrary File Read via Path Traversal – Super Forms – Drag & Drop

Be the first to know when new zero-days emerge:

Summary

CVE-2026-15896 is a directory traversal vulnerability (CWE-26) in the Super Forms – Drag & Drop Form Builder plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions up to and including 6.3.316. The flaw in the plugin’s parse_request function allows unauthenticated attackers to read arbitrary files from the server’s filesystem, potentially exposing sensitive configuration data, credentials, or source code. The issue carries a CVSS v3.1 base score of 9.1 (Critical).

Technical details

  • Root cause: The parse_request function processes the sfgtfi URL parameter without adequate path sanitization, allowing directory traversal sequences to escape the intended upload directory.
  • Authentication: The plugin’s optional file_upload_auth setting defaults to empty (disabled), meaning no authentication is required to trigger the flaw in the default configuration. Enabling this setting mitigates unauthenticated exploitation but does not remediate the underlying path traversal.
  • Trigger conditions: Exploitation requires that file upload be enabled on a form. On Linux, exploitation requires a real 13-digit timestamp directory to exist; on Windows, the traversal works with any hardcoded 13-digit prefix. The plugin’s file upload response discloses the name of the created directory, which provides attackers the value needed to complete the traversal path.
  • Attack vector: Remote, over the network, via a crafted HTTP request to the vulnerable endpoint — no user interaction or privileges required.
  • Impact: Disclosure of arbitrary file contents on the host server, which can include sensitive information such as configuration files, credentials, or application source code.

Affected software

  • Super Forms – Drag & Drop Form Builder (WordPress plugin, by WebRehab) — all versions up to and including 6.3.316.

Severity

  • CVSS v3.1 Base Score: 9.1 (Critical)
  • Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:H

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • Immediate: At time of publication, no confirmed patched version has been identified in vendor release notes. Administrators should monitor the plugin’s official changelog/repository for a fix addressing the parse_request function and sfgtfi parameter, and update immediately once available.
  • If no patch is yet available:
    • Enable the plugin’s file_upload_auth setting to require authentication for file upload related requests, which reduces (but does not eliminate) unauthenticated exposure.
    • Disable file upload functionality on public-facing Super Forms forms where not strictly required.
    • Restrict or monitor requests containing the sfgtfi parameter at the web server or WAF layer.
    • Review server logs for anomalous requests to form-processing endpoints containing path traversal sequences.

How IONIX’s External Exposure Management Platform Detects and Validates
Zero-Days to Shrink MTTR

1

Map your entire attack surface (continously)

IONIX uses multi-factor discovery methods, including DNS analysis, certificate mapping, metadata inspection, and more, to automatically map every internet-facing asset across your environment. This includes cloud instances, third-party platforms, shadow IT, and even forgotten infrastructure that traditional tools miss.

2

Monitor for new CVEs

Dozens of threat intel feeds using agentic technology are continuously analyzed to detect the appearance of proof-of-concept code, exploit kits, and indicators of active targeting. IONIX goes further by applying AI to proactively evaluate whether emerging vulnerabilities are likely to be exploited, even before PoCs go public.

3

Identify Potential External Exposures

Not all CVEs matter. IONIX filters vulnerabilities by asking attacker-centric questions: Can it be reached from the internet? Does it require authentication? Is it being exploited in the wild? This dramatically reduces noise and focuses teams on threats that can actually be weaponized.

4

Create Safe, Scalable Exploit Validations

IONIX transforms real-world PoCs into safe, non-intrusive test payloads that can be run in production environments without disruption. These simulations are precisely targeted to the systems that are vulnerable, ensuring rapid validation without unnecessary load.

5

Execute Exploit Validations

By combining context about software stack, versioning, exposure status, and reachability, IONIX ensures that only the right payloads are executed against the right assets, maximizing efficiency and minimizing risk.

6

Drive Fast and Actionable Remediation

Results are routed through integrations with ticketing, SOAR, and SIEM tools. Issues are written in plain language, bundled into remediation clusters, and prioritized based on asset criticality, exploitability, and blast radius. This shortens mean time to remediation (MTTR) and empowers teams to act with confidence.
