Summary
CVE-2026-19125 is an unauthenticated authentication bypass vulnerability (CWE-287: Improper Authentication) affecting the EthPress – Web3 Login WordPress plugin, versions up to and including 2.3.5. A missing return statement in the plugin’s wallet-signature verification logic allows an attacker to bypass Ethereum wallet signature checks and log in as an arbitrary WordPress user, including administrators. The flaw carries a CVSS v3.1 base score of 8.1 (High).
Technical details
- Root cause: The
verify_login()function inapp/Login.phpbuilds aWP_Errorobject when wallet signature verification fails but does notreturnafterward, so execution falls through to the authentication code path even though verification failed. - Trigger conditions: An attacker submits a login request through the plugin’s AJAX login endpoint using an invalid or empty signature for a wallet address that is already linked to a target WordPress account (stored in
wp_usermetaunder theethpressmeta key). - Attack flow: After the verification check silently fails to halt execution, the plugin’s
Address::log_in()routine resolves the supplied wallet address to its associated WordPress user and callswp_set_auth_cookie(), issuing a valid authenticated session for that user without requiring a legitimate cryptographic signature. - Attack vector: Network-based; the request can be sent unauthenticated over HTTP(S) to the site’s login/AJAX handlers, requiring no user interaction and no prior authentication (AV:N, AC:H, PR:N, UI:N).
- Impact: Full compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected WordPress site is possible if the targeted account is an administrator, since the attacker gains a genuine authenticated session and inherits that account’s privileges.
Affected software
- EthPress – Web3 Login WordPress plugin, versions up to and including 2.3.5

Mitigation and recommended actions
- Immediate: Update EthPress – Web3 Login to version 2.3.6 or later, which restores the missing return statement so signature verification failures correctly halt the login process.
- If immediate patching is not possible:
- Disable the EthPress wallet-login functionality or deactivate the plugin entirely until the patch can be applied.
- Audit the
wp_usermetatable for rows withmeta_key = 'ethpress'associated with privileged (administrator) accounts, and review authentication logs for unexpected admin logins originating from wallet-based authentication. - Restrict or monitor access to the plugin’s login AJAX endpoint at the network layer where feasible until patched.
