Summary

CVE-2026-57807 is a critical Authentication Bypass vulnerability (CVSS 9.8) in the miniOrange OAuth Single Sign On – SSO (OAuth Client) WordPress plugin, affecting all versions through 38.5.8. The flaw allows unauthenticated remote attackers to exploit the plugin’s password recovery mechanism via an alternate authentication path or channel, bypassing login controls entirely and achieving full compromise of affected WordPress sites. No official vendor patch is currently available.

Technical details

  • Root cause: Classified as CWE-288 (Authentication Bypass Using an Alternate Path or Channel), the vulnerability exposes an alternate authentication pathway — specifically the password recovery flow (CAPEC-50: Password Recovery Exploitation) — that can be abused to circumvent the plugin’s normal authentication controls.
  • Trigger conditions: No authentication, prior account access, or user interaction is required. The attack is fully unauthenticated with low attack complexity.
  • Attack vector: Remote, network-based. Exploitation is carried out over the internet against any publicly accessible WordPress site running the affected plugin version, with no need for physical or local access.
  • Impact: Successful exploitation enables complete authentication bypass, allowing an attacker to log in as any WordPress user — including administrators — resulting in full compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability (C:H/I:H/A:H). This can lead to complete site takeover, malicious content injection, data exfiltration, and further lateral movement within the hosting environment.

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • No official vendor patch is currently available. As of July 10, 2026, miniOrange has not released a remediated version of the plugin.
  • Immediate action: Site administrators are strongly advised to deactivate and remove the plugin from all internet-exposed WordPress installations until the vendor issues an official security update.
  • Network mitigation: Where immediate plugin removal is not feasible, restrict access to WordPress login and password recovery endpoints using WAF rules or IP-based allowlisting to reduce exposure to unauthenticated exploitation.
  • Monitor for updates: Follow the official WordPress plugin repository for the miniOrange OAuth SSO plugin for a patched release, and upgrade as soon as one becomes available.
