Summary

CVE-2026-61943 is a high-severity Unauthenticated Broken Access Control vulnerability affecting WPDM – Premium Packages, a WordPress plugin used to sell and deliver digital products securely, in all versions up to and including 6.2.0. The flaw stems from missing authorization checks (CWE-862), enabling unauthenticated remote attackers to bypass access controls and access protected content without any credentials or user interaction. The CVSS v3.1 base score is 7.5 (HIGH), with a full confidentiality impact and no requirement for authentication or elevated privileges.

  • Root cause: Missing authorization enforcement (CWE-862) on one or more plugin-controlled endpoints or request handlers, allowing requests to be processed without validating whether the requester has the required permissions.
  • Trigger conditions: No authentication, no user interaction, and no special network position required — the attack is executable by any remote, unauthenticated party.
  • Attack vector: Network-accessible over HTTP/HTTPS; low attack complexity with no privileges required (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N).
  • Impact: High confidentiality impact — unauthenticated attackers can gain unauthorized access to content or data that should be restricted to paying customers, such as premium digital downloads, license keys, or order details protected by the plugin’s access control mechanisms.

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • Immediate: Update WPDM – Premium Packages to version 7.0.0 or later. The fix was introduced in version 7.0.0 (released 2026-07-03), which includes a ground-up security hardening overhaul. The latest available version as of this post is 7.0.5.
  • Sites that cannot immediately update should consider temporarily restricting access to WordPress plugin endpoints at the web server or WAF level until the patch can be applied.
  • Administrators should review order and download access logs for unusual unauthenticated activity that may indicate prior exploitation attempts.
