CVE-2026-71374 – Remote Code Execution via Insecure Deserialization – Hitachi Cosminexus Component C

Be the first to know when new zero-days emerge:

Summary

CVE-2026-71374 is a critical insecure deserialization vulnerability (CWE-502) affecting Hitachi Cosminexus Component Container, a Java application server middleware component used across the Cosminexus V9 and V11 product lines. The flaw allows an unauthenticated, remote attacker to submit crafted serialized data that the container processes without adequate validation, potentially resulting in arbitrary object injection and full compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Hitachi rates this issue Critical with a CVSS v3.1 base score of 9.8.

Technical details

  • Root cause: Cosminexus Component Container deserializes untrusted input without proper type/origin validation, enabling object injection (CAPEC-586) when a malicious serialized payload is processed.
  • Trigger conditions: An attacker sends a specially crafted serialized data stream to a network-exposed service endpoint handled by the affected container component; no authentication or user interaction is required.
  • Attack vector: Network (AV:N), low attack complexity (AC:L), no privileges required (PR:N), no user interaction (UI:N).
  • Impact: Successful exploitation can lead to arbitrary code execution in the context of the application server process, with high impact to confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected system.

Affected software

Hitachi Cosminexus Component Container, all supported platforms (Windows, Linux, AIX, and HP-UX where applicable):

  • V11 line: 11-00 through 11-00-12, 11-10 through 11-10-11, 11-20 through 11-20-09, 11-30 through 11-30-08, 11-40 through 11-40-03, 11-50 through 11-50-03, 11-60 through 11-60-02, 11-70-01 through 11-70-02
  • V9 line: 09-00 through 09-00-18, 09-50 through 09-50-22, 09-70 through 09-70-27, 09-80 through 09-80-04, 09-87 through 09-87-09

Severity

  • CVSS v3.1 Base Score: 9.8 (Critical)
  • Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • Immediate: Upgrade to the fixed versions published by Hitachi:
    • Windows/Linux: 09-70-28, 09-87-10, 11-20-10, 11-60-03, 11-70-03
    • AIX: 09-80-05, 11-00-13
  • If immediate patching is not possible: Hitachi’s advisory does not describe a workaround; restrict network exposure of affected Cosminexus Component Container services (e.g., place behind a firewall/VPN, limit access to trusted internal networks only) and monitor for anomalous serialized-object traffic until the patch can be applied. Organizations should treat this as an urgent patching priority given the unauthenticated, network-exploitable nature of the flaw.

How IONIX’s External Exposure Management Platform Detects and Validates
Zero-Days to Shrink MTTR

1

Map your entire attack surface (continously)

IONIX uses multi-factor discovery methods, including DNS analysis, certificate mapping, metadata inspection, and more, to automatically map every internet-facing asset across your environment. This includes cloud instances, third-party platforms, shadow IT, and even forgotten infrastructure that traditional tools miss.

2

Monitor for new CVEs

Dozens of threat intel feeds using agentic technology are continuously analyzed to detect the appearance of proof-of-concept code, exploit kits, and indicators of active targeting. IONIX goes further by applying AI to proactively evaluate whether emerging vulnerabilities are likely to be exploited, even before PoCs go public.

3

Identify Potential External Exposures

Not all CVEs matter. IONIX filters vulnerabilities by asking attacker-centric questions: Can it be reached from the internet? Does it require authentication? Is it being exploited in the wild? This dramatically reduces noise and focuses teams on threats that can actually be weaponized.

4

Create Safe, Scalable Exploit Validations

IONIX transforms real-world PoCs into safe, non-intrusive test payloads that can be run in production environments without disruption. These simulations are precisely targeted to the systems that are vulnerable, ensuring rapid validation without unnecessary load.

5

Execute Exploit Validations

By combining context about software stack, versioning, exposure status, and reachability, IONIX ensures that only the right payloads are executed against the right assets, maximizing efficiency and minimizing risk.

6

Drive Fast and Actionable Remediation

Results are routed through integrations with ticketing, SOAR, and SIEM tools. Issues are written in plain language, bundled into remediation clusters, and prioritized based on asset criticality, exploitability, and blast radius. This shortens mean time to remediation (MTTR) and empowers teams to act with confidence.
