CVE-2026-71376 – Remote Command Injection (RCE) – Hitachi Cosminexus Component Container (v9.x/v11.x

Be the first to know when new zero-days emerge:

Summary

CVE-2026-71376 is a critical OS command injection vulnerability (CWE-78) in the operation management agent of Hitachi’s Cosminexus Component Container. An unauthenticated, network-based attacker can supply improperly neutralized input that is passed to an OS command, resulting in arbitrary command execution on the underlying host. The flaw has been assigned a CVSS v3.1 base score of 9.8 (Critical) and affects multiple Cosminexus V9 and V11 product editions across Windows, Linux, and AIX.

Technical details

  • Root cause: Improper neutralization of special elements used in an OS command (CWE-78 / CAPEC-88) within the operation management agent component of Cosminexus Component Container.
  • Trigger conditions: The operation management agent processes attacker-supplied input without adequate sanitization before invoking OS-level commands, enabling injection of arbitrary shell commands.
  • Attack vector: Network (AV:N) — no authentication (PR:N) or user interaction (UI:N) is required, and attack complexity is low (AC:L), making the vulnerability remotely and reliably exploitable.
  • Impact: Successful exploitation grants the attacker the ability to execute arbitrary OS commands with the privileges of the affected service, resulting in complete loss of confidentiality, integrity, and availability (C:H/I:H/A:H) of the host running the affected component.

Affected software

Affected products span Hitachi Cosminexus offerings (including uCosminexus Developer, Application Server, Service Platform, and Primary Server Base) built on the Component Container across Windows(x64), Linux(x64), and AIX platforms:

  • Cosminexus V11: versions 11-00 through 11-70-02 (including 11-00–11-00-12, 11-10–11-10-11, 11-20–11-20-09, 11-30–11-30-08, 11-40–11-40-03, 11-50–11-50-03, 11-60–11-60-02, 11-70–11-70-02)
  • Cosminexus V9: versions 09-00 through 09-87-09 (including 09-00–09-00-18, 09-50–09-50-22, 09-70–09-70-27, 09-80–09-80-04, 09-87–09-87-09)

Severity

  • CVSS v3.1 Base Score: 9.8 (Critical)
  • Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • Immediate: Upgrade to the fixed versions published by Hitachi:
    • Windows / Linux(x64): 09-70-28, 09-87-10, 11-20-10, 11-60-03, 11-70-03
    • AIX: 09-70-28, 09-80-05, 11-00-13
  • Configuration note: Environments using logical user servers must review and update configuration settings before applying the patch, as Hitachi warns this is required to avoid server startup/shutdown failures post-patch.
  • If immediate patching is not possible: Restrict network access to the Cosminexus operation management agent to trusted management networks only, and monitor for anomalous process execution on hosts running the affected Component Container.

How IONIX’s External Exposure Management Platform Detects and Validates
Zero-Days to Shrink MTTR

1

Map your entire attack surface (continously)

IONIX uses multi-factor discovery methods, including DNS analysis, certificate mapping, metadata inspection, and more, to automatically map every internet-facing asset across your environment. This includes cloud instances, third-party platforms, shadow IT, and even forgotten infrastructure that traditional tools miss.

2

Monitor for new CVEs

Dozens of threat intel feeds using agentic technology are continuously analyzed to detect the appearance of proof-of-concept code, exploit kits, and indicators of active targeting. IONIX goes further by applying AI to proactively evaluate whether emerging vulnerabilities are likely to be exploited, even before PoCs go public.

3

Identify Potential External Exposures

Not all CVEs matter. IONIX filters vulnerabilities by asking attacker-centric questions: Can it be reached from the internet? Does it require authentication? Is it being exploited in the wild? This dramatically reduces noise and focuses teams on threats that can actually be weaponized.

4

Create Safe, Scalable Exploit Validations

IONIX transforms real-world PoCs into safe, non-intrusive test payloads that can be run in production environments without disruption. These simulations are precisely targeted to the systems that are vulnerable, ensuring rapid validation without unnecessary load.

5

Execute Exploit Validations

By combining context about software stack, versioning, exposure status, and reachability, IONIX ensures that only the right payloads are executed against the right assets, maximizing efficiency and minimizing risk.

6

Drive Fast and Actionable Remediation

Results are routed through integrations with ticketing, SOAR, and SIEM tools. Issues are written in plain language, bundled into remediation clusters, and prioritized based on asset criticality, exploitability, and blast radius. This shortens mean time to remediation (MTTR) and empowers teams to act with confidence.
