CVE-2026-76413 – SSO Token Forgery / Administrator Account Takeover – Cisco Secure Firewall Manageme

Be the first to know when new zero-days emerge:

Summary

CVE-2026-76413 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Cisco Adaptive Security Device Manager (ASDM) single sign-on (SSO) handler within Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center (FMC) Software. Improper management of the ASDM SSO token allows an unauthenticated, remote attacker to forge a valid session token and log in as the ASDM administrator user. Cisco rates the issue 8.2 (High) on CVSS v3.1.

Technical details

  • Root cause: Improper restriction/management of the security token issued by the ASDM SSO handler (CWE-1259, Improper Restriction of Security Token Assignment), allowing a token to be forged rather than validated as issued by the legitimate identity source.
  • Trigger conditions: No authentication or user interaction is required; the attacker only needs network reachability to the FMC management interface where ASDM SSO is exposed.
  • Attack vector: Network (AV:N), low attack complexity (AC:L), no privileges (PR:N), no user interaction (UI:N).
  • Impact: A successful forged-token login grants the attacker administrator-level access to ASDM. By repeating the forgery, the attacker can also continuously invalidate legitimate administrator sessions, keeping real admins locked out indefinitely. The vulnerability does not affect confidentiality but has a low integrity and high availability impact per the CVSS vector.
  • Cisco PSIRT states it is not aware of public proof-of-concept code or malicious exploitation of this vulnerability at the time of disclosure.

Affected software

  • Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center (FMC) Software, releases spanning the 7.0.x, 7.2.x, 7.4.x, 7.6.x, 7.7.x, and 10.0.x branches, from 7.0.0 through 10.0.1.
  • Cisco ASA Software and Cisco Secure Firewall Threat Defense (FTD) Software are not affected — the vulnerability is specific to the ASDM SSO handler as implemented in FMC.

Severity

  • CVSS v3.1 Base Score: 8.2 (High)
  • Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:H

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • Immediate: Upgrade the affected Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center to a fixed release. Cisco advises using the Cisco Software Checker to identify the fixed release applicable to your specific FMC train, as fixes are distributed across the 7.0.x, 7.2.x, 7.4.x, 7.6.x, 7.7.x, and 10.0.x branches.
  • If no patch can be applied immediately: Cisco states there are no workarounds for this vulnerability; restrict and closely monitor network access to the FMC management/ASDM interface (e.g., limit exposure to trusted management networks only) until the upgrade can be completed.

How IONIX’s External Exposure Management Platform Detects and Validates
Zero-Days to Shrink MTTR

1

Map your entire attack surface (continously)

IONIX uses multi-factor discovery methods, including DNS analysis, certificate mapping, metadata inspection, and more, to automatically map every internet-facing asset across your environment. This includes cloud instances, third-party platforms, shadow IT, and even forgotten infrastructure that traditional tools miss.

2

Monitor for new CVEs

Dozens of threat intel feeds using agentic technology are continuously analyzed to detect the appearance of proof-of-concept code, exploit kits, and indicators of active targeting. IONIX goes further by applying AI to proactively evaluate whether emerging vulnerabilities are likely to be exploited, even before PoCs go public.

3

Identify Potential External Exposures

Not all CVEs matter. IONIX filters vulnerabilities by asking attacker-centric questions: Can it be reached from the internet? Does it require authentication? Is it being exploited in the wild? This dramatically reduces noise and focuses teams on threats that can actually be weaponized.

4

Create Safe, Scalable Exploit Validations

IONIX transforms real-world PoCs into safe, non-intrusive test payloads that can be run in production environments without disruption. These simulations are precisely targeted to the systems that are vulnerable, ensuring rapid validation without unnecessary load.

5

Execute Exploit Validations

By combining context about software stack, versioning, exposure status, and reachability, IONIX ensures that only the right payloads are executed against the right assets, maximizing efficiency and minimizing risk.

6

Drive Fast and Actionable Remediation

Results are routed through integrations with ticketing, SOAR, and SIEM tools. Issues are written in plain language, bundled into remediation clusters, and prioritized based on asset criticality, exploitability, and blast radius. This shortens mean time to remediation (MTTR) and empowers teams to act with confidence.
