CVE-2026-78312 – Unauthenticated Path Traversal – Delta Electronics DIAEnergie before v1.11.00.022

Be the first to know when new zero-days emerge:

Summary

CVE-2026-78312 is a critical path traversal vulnerability (CWE-22) affecting Delta Electronics DIAEnergie, an industrial energy management system used in manufacturing and utility environments. The flaw allows an unauthenticated, remote attacker to traverse the application’s file system and access files and directories outside those intended to be exposed, resulting in high impact to both integrity and availability. It carries a CVSS v3.1 base score of 9.1 (Critical) and affects all DIAEnergie versions prior to 1.11.00.022.

Technical details

  • Root cause: DIAEnergie fails to properly sanitize or restrict user-supplied file paths within its web application, permitting directory/path traversal sequences to reach the underlying file system.
  • Trigger conditions: An attacker sends a specially crafted request containing path traversal sequences to a vulnerable DIAEnergie web endpoint; no valid credentials or user interaction are required.
  • Attack vector: Network — the vulnerability is remotely exploitable over the network (AV:N), with low attack complexity (AC:L) and no privileges (PR:N) or user interaction (UI:N) required.
  • Impact: Successful exploitation does not directly expose confidentiality of data (C:N) but allows high-impact tampering and disruption — attackers can write, modify, or otherwise interfere with files outside intended directories, and disrupt system availability, potentially affecting energy management operations.
  • This vulnerability was disclosed alongside five other DIAEnergie flaws (CVE-2026-78308, 78309, 78310, 78311, 78313) in the same vendor advisory, ranging from authentication bypass to SQL injection and access control issues — indicating broader systemic weaknesses in the application’s input handling and access controls.

Affected software

  • Delta Electronics DIAEnergie — all versions prior to v1.11.00.022

Severity

  • CVSS v3.1 Base Score: 9.1 (Critical)
  • Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:H

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • Immediate: Contact Delta Electronics technical support to obtain and upgrade to DIAEnergie v1.11.00.022 or later, which corrects this vulnerability.
  • If immediate patching is not possible:
    • Avoid exposing DIAEnergie systems and interfaces directly to the internet.
    • Place DIAEnergie servers and related control systems behind a firewall, isolated from general business networks.
    • Require remote access to go through a secure method such as a VPN.
    • Monitor network traffic to DIAEnergie web endpoints for anomalous requests containing path traversal patterns (e.g., ../ sequences).

How IONIX’s External Exposure Management Platform Detects and Validates
Zero-Days to Shrink MTTR

1

Map your entire attack surface (continously)

IONIX uses multi-factor discovery methods, including DNS analysis, certificate mapping, metadata inspection, and more, to automatically map every internet-facing asset across your environment. This includes cloud instances, third-party platforms, shadow IT, and even forgotten infrastructure that traditional tools miss.

2

Monitor for new CVEs

Dozens of threat intel feeds using agentic technology are continuously analyzed to detect the appearance of proof-of-concept code, exploit kits, and indicators of active targeting. IONIX goes further by applying AI to proactively evaluate whether emerging vulnerabilities are likely to be exploited, even before PoCs go public.

3

Identify Potential External Exposures

Not all CVEs matter. IONIX filters vulnerabilities by asking attacker-centric questions: Can it be reached from the internet? Does it require authentication? Is it being exploited in the wild? This dramatically reduces noise and focuses teams on threats that can actually be weaponized.

4

Create Safe, Scalable Exploit Validations

IONIX transforms real-world PoCs into safe, non-intrusive test payloads that can be run in production environments without disruption. These simulations are precisely targeted to the systems that are vulnerable, ensuring rapid validation without unnecessary load.

5

Execute Exploit Validations

By combining context about software stack, versioning, exposure status, and reachability, IONIX ensures that only the right payloads are executed against the right assets, maximizing efficiency and minimizing risk.

6

Drive Fast and Actionable Remediation

Results are routed through integrations with ticketing, SOAR, and SIEM tools. Issues are written in plain language, bundled into remediation clusters, and prioritized based on asset criticality, exploitability, and blast radius. This shortens mean time to remediation (MTTR) and empowers teams to act with confidence.
