Summary
CVE-2026-78361 is a Missing Authorization vulnerability (CWE-862) in the zipMoney (Zip Co) Payments Plugin for WooCommerce for WordPress. The plugin fails to perform authorization checks on a front-end request handler and does not restrict which WordPress option name a caller may supply, allowing unauthenticated attackers to delete arbitrary WordPress options. The issue carries a CVSS v3.1 base score of 9.1 (Critical).
Technical details
- Root cause: the plugin’s front-end request handler performs no authorization/capability check before processing option-deletion requests, and does not validate or restrict which option name is supplied by the caller.
- Trigger conditions: an unauthenticated attacker sends a crafted request to the exposed handler, specifying an arbitrary WordPress option name to be deleted.
- Attack vector: network-based, requiring no authentication and no user interaction.
- Impact: attackers can delete arbitrary WordPress options, which can destroy site configuration and access control settings, deactivate the plugin itself, and disrupt or take the site offline — resulting in high integrity and high availability impact (no confidentiality impact).
Affected software
- zipMoney (Zip Co) Payments Plugin for WooCommerce (WordPress plugin): all versions before 2.4.0
Severity
- CVSS v3.1 Base Score: 9.1 (Critical)
- Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:H
Mitigation and recommended actions
- Immediate: Upgrade the zipMoney (Zip Co) Payments Plugin for WooCommerce to version 2.4.0 or later, which restores authorization checks on the affected handler.
- If no patch can be applied immediately: consider deactivating the plugin until it can be updated, and deploy a Web Application Firewall (WAF) rule to block requests targeting the vulnerable option-deletion handler as a temporary compensating control.
