Summary

CVE-2026-83527 is an authentication bypass vulnerability in Ivanti Sentry, a mobile gateway/management appliance used to broker traffic between mobile devices and back-end enterprise systems. The flaw allows a remote, unauthenticated attacker to obtain administrative-level access to an affected Sentry instance. It carries a CVSS v3.1 base score of 8.1 (High), and no user interaction or credentials are required to exploit it.

Technical details

  • Root cause: Classified as CWE-288 (Authentication Bypass Using an Alternate Path or Channel) — the vulnerability lets an attacker reach a privileged administrative code path without going through the normal authentication mechanism.
  • Attack pattern: Maps to CAPEC-115 (Authentication Bypass).
  • Attack vector: Network (AV:N) — exploitable remotely without local or adjacent network access.
  • Attack complexity: High (AC:H) — successful exploitation requires conditions or timing that are not fully attacker-controlled, per the published CVSS vector.
  • Privileges/interaction required: None (PR:N/UI:N) — the attacker needs no valid account and no victim interaction.
  • Impact: Full compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability (C:H/I:H/A:H); successful exploitation grants administrative-level access to the Sentry appliance.
  • The public CVE record does not describe active in-the-wild exploitation at the time of publication; treat as high priority given the unauthenticated, network-reachable nature of the flaw and Ivanti Sentry’s history of being targeted following disclosure of similar issues.

Affected software

  • Ivanti Sentry versions prior to R10.8.2
  • Ivanti Sentry versions prior to R10.7.3
  • Ivanti Sentry versions prior to R10.6.4

Severity

  • CVSS v3.1 Base Score: 8.1 (High)
  • Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • Immediate: Upgrade Ivanti Sentry to the fixed releases: R10.8.2, R10.7.3, or R10.6.4 (or later), depending on your current release branch.
  • If patching cannot be applied immediately: Restrict network access to the Sentry administrative interface to trusted management networks only, and monitor Sentry logs for unexpected administrative account creation, configuration changes, or unauthorized login activity.
  • Verify all internet-exposed Sentry instances are inventoried and confirm patch status across every deployed node, since prior Ivanti Sentry issues have been rapidly weaponized after public disclosure.
  • Review the official Ivanti advisory for this CVE for any additional configuration guidance before and after upgrading.

How IONIX’s External Exposure Management Platform Detects and Validates
Zero-Days to Shrink MTTR

1

Map your entire attack surface (continously)

IONIX uses multi-factor discovery methods, including DNS analysis, certificate mapping, metadata inspection, and more, to automatically map every internet-facing asset across your environment. This includes cloud instances, third-party platforms, shadow IT, and even forgotten infrastructure that traditional tools miss.

2

Monitor for new CVEs

Dozens of threat intel feeds using agentic technology are continuously analyzed to detect the appearance of proof-of-concept code, exploit kits, and indicators of active targeting. IONIX goes further by applying AI to proactively evaluate whether emerging vulnerabilities are likely to be exploited, even before PoCs go public.

3

Identify Potential External Exposures

Not all CVEs matter. IONIX filters vulnerabilities by asking attacker-centric questions: Can it be reached from the internet? Does it require authentication? Is it being exploited in the wild? This dramatically reduces noise and focuses teams on threats that can actually be weaponized.

4

Create Safe, Scalable Exploit Validations

IONIX transforms real-world PoCs into safe, non-intrusive test payloads that can be run in production environments without disruption. These simulations are precisely targeted to the systems that are vulnerable, ensuring rapid validation without unnecessary load.

5

Execute Exploit Validations

By combining context about software stack, versioning, exposure status, and reachability, IONIX ensures that only the right payloads are executed against the right assets, maximizing efficiency and minimizing risk.

6

Drive Fast and Actionable Remediation

Results are routed through integrations with ticketing, SOAR, and SIEM tools. Issues are written in plain language, bundled into remediation clusters, and prioritized based on asset criticality, exploitability, and blast radius. This shortens mean time to remediation (MTTR) and empowers teams to act with confidence.
