Summary
CVE-2026-85984 is a critical authentication bypass vulnerability in the miniOrange OTP Login, Verification and SMS Notifications WordPress plugin, affecting versions up to and including 5.5.5. The flaw allows unauthenticated attackers to log in as any existing user — including administrators — by supplying only a known username and an empty password. With a CVSS v3.1 score of 9.8 (Critical), successful exploitation results in full administrative takeover of the WordPress site.
Technical details
- Root cause: The plugin’s WordPress login form handling fails to properly validate password/OTP verification when the
mo_wp_login_intentrequest parameter is set (e.g., tootp), allowing the login flow to skip password checks under certain configurations. - Trigger conditions: Exploitation requires specific plugin settings to be enabled, including "WP Login OTP," "Login with Only OTP," "Allow Users to Login with Username and Password," and "Admin OTP Bypass."
- Attack vector: Network-based, unauthenticated (AV:N, PR:N, UI:N) — an attacker submits a login request with a known/guessed username, an empty password, and the crafted
mo_wp_login_intentparameter. - Impact: Complete compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability, as the attacker can authenticate as an administrator without valid credentials, leading to full site takeover.
Affected software
- miniOrange OTP Login, Verification and SMS Notifications (WordPress plugin, vendor: cyberlord92) — versions 0 through 5.5.5, when the affected login settings are enabled.
Severity
- CVSS v3.1 Base Score: 9.8 (Critical)

Mitigation and recommended actions
- Immediate: Update the miniOrange OTP Login, Verification and SMS Notifications plugin to version 5.5.6 or later, which hardens the WordPress login form’s administrator OTP-bypass flow so that a verified password or OTP is always required before a session is issued.
- If patching is not immediately possible: Disable the "Login with Only OTP," "WP Login OTP," and "Admin OTP Bypass" settings until the update can be applied; monitor authentication logs for anomalous login requests containing the
mo_wp_login_intentparameter; consider restricting access towp-login.phpat the network layer for untrusted sources.
