Summary
CVE-2026-87115 is a critical-severity path traversal vulnerability in the VikAppointments Services Booking Calendar plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions up to and including 1.2.21. Insufficient file path validation allows unauthenticated attackers to delete arbitrary files on the web server, which can lead to remote code execution under certain conditions. The vulnerability carries a CVSS v3.1 base score of 9.1 (Critical).
Technical details
- Root cause: insufficient path validation in the plugin’s file-extraction logic, exploitable via the
old_vapcfNparameter. - Trigger conditions: exploitation requires the site to have at least one File-type custom field published on the booking confirmation page shortcode; this field type is not configured by default.
- Attack vector: network-based, low attack complexity, no privileges and no user interaction required.
- Impact: attackers can delete arbitrary files from the server. Deleting critical files (e.g., configuration files) can disrupt the site or create conditions enabling remote code execution.
Affected software
- VikAppointments Services Booking Calendar (WordPress plugin, developer: e4jvikwp) — versions up to and including 1.2.21
Severity
- CVSS v3.1 Base Score: 9.1 (Critical)
- Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:H
Mitigation and recommended actions
- Immediate: upgrade VikAppointments Services Booking Calendar to version 1.2.22 or later, which fixes the arbitrary file deletion issue.
- If immediate patching is not possible: remove or disable any File-type custom fields from the booking confirmation page shortcode to eliminate the exploitation prerequisite, and restrict public access to the plugin’s confirmation page endpoint until patched.
- Review server file integrity and web server logs for unexpected file deletions or requests referencing the
old_vapcfNparameter as part of incident response.
