CVE-2026-87774 – Unauthenticated SQL Injection – Tz Weekly Radio Schedule WordPress Plugin (≤ 1.8.1)

Be the first to know when new zero-days emerge:

Summary

CVE-2026-87774 is an unauthenticated SQL injection vulnerability affecting the Tz Weekly Radio Schedule WordPress plugin (tz-wrs-core) in versions up to and including 1.8.1. The plugin fails to sanitize and escape a parameter before using it in a SQL query executed via an AJAX action that is reachable without authentication, allowing remote attackers to extract sensitive data from the site’s database. The vulnerability carries a CVSS v3.1 base score of 8.6 (High).

Technical details

  • Root cause: The plugin builds a SQL query using unsanitized/unescaped user-supplied input (CWE-89, Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an SQL Command).
  • Trigger conditions: The vulnerable parameter is processed by a WordPress AJAX action (wp-admin/admin-ajax.php handler) registered by the plugin that is accessible to unauthenticated (nopriv) users, so no login or valid session is required to reach the vulnerable code path.
  • Attack vector: Network-based (AV:N), low attack complexity (AC:L), no privileges required (PR:N), no user interaction (UI:N) — an attacker can send a crafted HTTP request directly to the AJAX endpoint.
  • Impact: Successful exploitation allows extraction of sensitive information from the underlying WordPress database (high confidentiality impact); the reported CVSS vector indicates no direct integrity or availability impact (I:N/A:N), though database disclosure could facilitate further attacks (e.g., credential theft, session hijacking).

Affected software

  • Tz Weekly Radio Schedule WordPress plugin (tz-wrs-core), versions 0 through 1.8.1 (i.e., all versions up to and including 1.8.1).

Severity

  • CVSS v3.1 Base Score: 8.6 (High)
  • Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:N/A:N

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • Immediate: No patched version has been identified for this plugin as of publication. Sites running Tz Weekly Radio Schedule ≤ 1.8.1 should treat the plugin as unfixed and monitor the vendor/WordPress.org plugin page for an updated release; upgrade immediately once a fixed version is published.
  • If no patch is available:
    • Deactivate and remove the Tz Weekly Radio Schedule plugin until a fix is released.
    • If removal is not immediately feasible, restrict or block access to the plugin’s AJAX action via a Web Application Firewall (WAF) rule targeting SQL injection patterns on admin-ajax.php requests associated with this plugin’s action parameter.
    • Monitor web server and WordPress logs for anomalous requests to admin-ajax.php containing SQL metacharacters or injection patterns.
    • Apply least-privilege database account permissions for the WordPress database user to limit the impact of any successful data extraction.

How IONIX’s External Exposure Management Platform Detects and Validates
Zero-Days to Shrink MTTR

1

Map your entire attack surface (continously)

IONIX uses multi-factor discovery methods, including DNS analysis, certificate mapping, metadata inspection, and more, to automatically map every internet-facing asset across your environment. This includes cloud instances, third-party platforms, shadow IT, and even forgotten infrastructure that traditional tools miss.

2

Monitor for new CVEs

Dozens of threat intel feeds using agentic technology are continuously analyzed to detect the appearance of proof-of-concept code, exploit kits, and indicators of active targeting. IONIX goes further by applying AI to proactively evaluate whether emerging vulnerabilities are likely to be exploited, even before PoCs go public.

3

Identify Potential External Exposures

Not all CVEs matter. IONIX filters vulnerabilities by asking attacker-centric questions: Can it be reached from the internet? Does it require authentication? Is it being exploited in the wild? This dramatically reduces noise and focuses teams on threats that can actually be weaponized.

4

Create Safe, Scalable Exploit Validations

IONIX transforms real-world PoCs into safe, non-intrusive test payloads that can be run in production environments without disruption. These simulations are precisely targeted to the systems that are vulnerable, ensuring rapid validation without unnecessary load.

5

Execute Exploit Validations

By combining context about software stack, versioning, exposure status, and reachability, IONIX ensures that only the right payloads are executed against the right assets, maximizing efficiency and minimizing risk.

6

Drive Fast and Actionable Remediation

Results are routed through integrations with ticketing, SOAR, and SIEM tools. Issues are written in plain language, bundled into remediation clusters, and prioritized based on asset criticality, exploitability, and blast radius. This shortens mean time to remediation (MTTR) and empowers teams to act with confidence.
