Summary
CVE-2026-89055 is a critical Missing Authorization vulnerability (CWE-862) in the "Customer Reviews for WooCommerce" WordPress plugin by ivole, affecting all versions up to and including 5.120.0. The flaw lets unauthenticated attackers permanently delete arbitrary Media Library attachments — including administrator-owned assets such as product images and site logos — with a CVSS v3.1 score of 9.1 (Critical).
Technical details
- Root cause: The plugin’s review-handling code fails to verify that a user is authorized before acting on the
items[][media]parameter when processing trashed and purged reviews, allowing the attachment-deletion logic to be reached without authentication. - Trigger conditions: An attacker needs only a public review-form link — a URL containing a valid nonce and a 13-character form ID — which is typically distributed to customers via email/order confirmation. No WordPress account, login session, or administrative privileges are required.
- Attack vector: Network-based (AV:N); the attacker submits a crafted request that injects attachment IDs into a review and then triggers the review’s trash/purge flow, causing the referenced Media Library items to be deleted.
- Impact: Complete integrity and availability loss for affected media assets (CVSS Integrity: High, Availability: High) — attackers can permanently remove product images, branding/logo files, and other administrator-managed uploads from the WordPress Media Library. There is no confidentiality impact.

Mitigation and recommended actions
- Immediate: Update the "Customer Reviews for WooCommerce" plugin to a version released after 5.120.0. At the time of writing, the plugin’s current published version is 5.122.0, which is beyond the affected range; confirm the changelog of your installed update explicitly addresses this authorization bypass before considering the site remediated.
- If unable to patch immediately:
- Restrict or rotate distributed review-form links where feasible, since exploitation depends on possession of a valid form link/nonce.
- Monitor the Media Library and site logs for unexpected attachment deletions or unusual requests to the plugin’s review-submission/AJAX endpoints.
- Consider disabling the review-form functionality or placing a web application firewall rule in front of the plugin’s review endpoints until the update is applied.
- Maintain backups of Media Library content to enable rapid recovery if deletions occur.
