Summary

CVE-2026-92566 is an unauthenticated Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability in DataGear, an open-source data visualization and analysis platform. The flaw resides in the HTTP dataset preview functionality, which allows a remote, unauthenticated attacker to force the server to issue arbitrary HTTP requests to internal or external destinations of the attacker’s choosing. It is rated HIGH severity (CVSS 3.1: 8.2).

Technical details

  • Root cause: The /dataSet/preview/Http endpoint builds outgoing HTTP requests using a caller-supplied URI without validating or restricting the destination. The underlying HTTP client (HttpDataSet.java) is instantiated without IP blocklisting, redirect controls, or private-address-range filtering.
  • Trigger conditions: By default, unauthenticated visitors are assigned the ROLE_DATA_ANALYST role, and the security configuration grants Data Analysts access to the dataset preview endpoints — meaning no valid session or credentials are required to reach the vulnerable code path.
  • Attack vector: Network-based. An attacker sends a single crafted GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, or DELETE request to the preview endpoint, specifying an internal or cloud-internal URI as the target.
  • Impact: The server relays the request and returns the full response body to the attacker, enabling reconnaissance and interaction with internal network services, internal APIs, and cloud instance metadata services (e.g., IMDS), which can expose sensitive internal data or cloud credentials.

Affected software

  • DataGear versions 0 through 6.0.0 (all releases up to and including 6.0.0, and versions up to 5.5.0 as referenced in the original vulnerability report)

Severity

  • CVSS v3.1 Base Score: 8.2 (HIGH)
  • Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:L/A:N

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • Immediate: No fixed version has been published by the DataGear maintainers at the time of disclosure. Monitor the official DataGear repository and advisories for a patched release, and upgrade as soon as one becomes available.
  • If no patch is available:
    • Restrict or disable network access to the /dataSet/preview/Http endpoint, particularly from untrusted networks.
    • Disable the HTTP dataset preview feature entirely if it is not required.
    • Deploy egress filtering/firewall rules on the DataGear host to block outbound requests to internal address ranges and cloud metadata endpoints (e.g., 169.254.169.254).
    • Require authentication for dataset preview functionality and review the default role assignment for unauthenticated users (ROLE_DATA_ANALYST) to ensure it does not grant access to preview endpoints.

How IONIX’s External Exposure Management Platform Detects and Validates
Zero-Days to Shrink MTTR

1

Map your entire attack surface (continously)

IONIX uses multi-factor discovery methods, including DNS analysis, certificate mapping, metadata inspection, and more, to automatically map every internet-facing asset across your environment. This includes cloud instances, third-party platforms, shadow IT, and even forgotten infrastructure that traditional tools miss.

2

Monitor for new CVEs

Dozens of threat intel feeds using agentic technology are continuously analyzed to detect the appearance of proof-of-concept code, exploit kits, and indicators of active targeting. IONIX goes further by applying AI to proactively evaluate whether emerging vulnerabilities are likely to be exploited, even before PoCs go public.

3

Identify Potential External Exposures

Not all CVEs matter. IONIX filters vulnerabilities by asking attacker-centric questions: Can it be reached from the internet? Does it require authentication? Is it being exploited in the wild? This dramatically reduces noise and focuses teams on threats that can actually be weaponized.

4

Create Safe, Scalable Exploit Validations

IONIX transforms real-world PoCs into safe, non-intrusive test payloads that can be run in production environments without disruption. These simulations are precisely targeted to the systems that are vulnerable, ensuring rapid validation without unnecessary load.

5

Execute Exploit Validations

By combining context about software stack, versioning, exposure status, and reachability, IONIX ensures that only the right payloads are executed against the right assets, maximizing efficiency and minimizing risk.

6

Drive Fast and Actionable Remediation

Results are routed through integrations with ticketing, SOAR, and SIEM tools. Issues are written in plain language, bundled into remediation clusters, and prioritized based on asset criticality, exploitability, and blast radius. This shortens mean time to remediation (MTTR) and empowers teams to act with confidence.
