Summary

CVE-2026-94130 is an unauthenticated SQL injection vulnerability in the YouTube Gallery extension for Joomla (com_youtubegallery, joomlaboat.com), affecting versions 1.0.0 through 5.7.2. The flaw resides in the extension’s public video search and sort functionality, allowing an attacker to inject SQL into backend read queries without any authentication or user interaction. The issue is rated CRITICAL with a severity score of 9.3.

Technical details

  • Root cause: user-supplied input passed to the extension’s public API is not properly neutralized before being used in SQL queries (CWE-89 – SQL Injection).
  • Trigger conditions: the vulnerable endpoint is reachable at index.php?option=com_youtubegallery&view=youtubegallery&yg_api=1 on any gallery page where valid listid and themeid parameters are supplied; no login or session is required.
  • Vulnerable parameters include the search and sort fields (e.g., ygsearchfields, ygsearchquery, and sort-related GET parameters) used by the video search/sort feature.
  • Attack vector: fully network-based, exploitable remotely over HTTP(S) with no privileges or user interaction.
  • Impact: successful exploitation can allow an attacker to read, and potentially manipulate, data from the underlying Joomla database, including sensitive content stored by the site (confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data are all affected).

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • Immediate: upgrade the YouTube Gallery extension to version 5.7.3 or later, which contains the fix for this issue.
  • If immediate patching is not possible: restrict or disable public access to the com_youtubegallery API endpoint (yg_api=1) at the web server or WAF layer, and monitor for anomalous search/sort query parameters (e.g., SQL keywords, time-based payloads such as SLEEP()) targeting this component until the update can be applied.
