Summary
CVE-2026-94131 is an unauthenticated arbitrary file deletion vulnerability in the AcyMailing Enterprise extension for Joomla, affecting versions 1.0.0 through 11.0.5. A subscriber-supplied path stored in a file-type custom field is used by AcyMailing to delete a file when that field is later cleared, without verifying the path stays inside the extension’s designated upload folder. The issue carries a CVSS score of 8.3 (High) and requires no authentication, allowing an attacker to delete arbitrary files on the server, including the site’s configuration.php.
Technical details
- Root cause: AcyMailing lets a subscriber set the value of a file-type custom field to an arbitrary file path rather than restricting it to a path produced by a genuine file upload.
- Trigger condition: When the custom field is subsequently cleared, AcyMailing deletes the file at the stored path without validating that the path resolves to a location inside the upload folder.
- Attack vector: Network-based; the flaw is reachable through subscriber-facing functionality of the Enterprise edition and does not require prior authentication.
- Impact: Deletion of arbitrary files outside the intended upload directory, including critical files such as
configuration.php, which can disrupt site availability and potentially expose the site to further compromise.
Affected software

Mitigation and recommended actions
- Immediate: Upgrade AcyMailing to version 11.1.0 or later, which restricts file-type custom field values to genuine uploads, applies
basename()and filename validation, and verifies the resolved path stays inside the upload directory before writing or deleting. - If patching is not immediately possible: Restrict or disable subscriber-facing custom field submission forms that expose file-type fields, monitor for unexpected deletions of core files such as
configuration.php, and ensure recent backups of the Joomla installation are available for rapid recovery.
