CVE-2026-94132 – Unauthenticated Remote Code Execution – AcyMailing Enterprise for Joomla 1.0.0–11.0

Be the first to know when new zero-days emerge:

Summary

CVE-2026-94132 is a critical unrestricted file upload vulnerability in the AcyMailing Enterprise extension for Joomla that leads to remote code execution. The flaw resides in the mailbox action feature, where MIME parts of incoming emails are written to a web-accessible upload directory without any extension check. An attacker who can send an email to a mailbox monitored by AcyMailing can plant a PHP file inside the web root and have it executed by the server, with no authentication required.

Technical details

  • Root cause: when AcyMailing’s mailbox action feature processes incoming email (e.g., for bounce handling), it extracts MIME attachment parts and saves them to media/com_acym/upload/ without validating or restricting the file extension.
  • Trigger conditions: the site must have a mailbox action configured to poll an inbox (commonly used for bounce/reply processing); an attacker sends a crafted email containing a malicious attachment (e.g., a .php file) to that monitored mailbox.
  • Attack vector: network — the attacker needs no access to the Joomla site itself, only the ability to send an email to the monitored mailbox address, making this remotely exploitable without authentication.
  • Impact: successful exploitation allows an uploaded PHP file to be requested directly from the web server, resulting in arbitrary remote code execution in the context of the web server, with corresponding loss of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected system.

Affected software

  • AcyMailing Enterprise extension for Joomla, versions 1.0.0 through 11.0.5
  • Fixed in version 11.1.0

Severity

  • CVSS v4.0 Base Score: 9.5 (Critical)
  • Vector: CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:H/SI:H/SA:H

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • Immediate: upgrade AcyMailing Enterprise to version 11.1.0 or later.
  • If patching is not immediately possible:
    • Disable or remove any mailbox action configuration that polls a mailbox (POP3/IMAP) for bounce or reply processing until the update can be applied.
    • Prevent PHP execution within the media/com_acym/upload/ directory (e.g., via web server configuration or .htaccess rules disabling script execution in upload directories).
    • Restrict or monitor which external addresses can send mail to any mailbox configured for AcyMailing’s mailbox actions.
    • Review the upload directory for unexpected files and remove any unauthorized scripts.

How IONIX’s External Exposure Management Platform Detects and Validates
Zero-Days to Shrink MTTR

1

Map your entire attack surface (continously)

IONIX uses multi-factor discovery methods, including DNS analysis, certificate mapping, metadata inspection, and more, to automatically map every internet-facing asset across your environment. This includes cloud instances, third-party platforms, shadow IT, and even forgotten infrastructure that traditional tools miss.

2

Monitor for new CVEs

Dozens of threat intel feeds using agentic technology are continuously analyzed to detect the appearance of proof-of-concept code, exploit kits, and indicators of active targeting. IONIX goes further by applying AI to proactively evaluate whether emerging vulnerabilities are likely to be exploited, even before PoCs go public.

3

Identify Potential External Exposures

Not all CVEs matter. IONIX filters vulnerabilities by asking attacker-centric questions: Can it be reached from the internet? Does it require authentication? Is it being exploited in the wild? This dramatically reduces noise and focuses teams on threats that can actually be weaponized.

4

Create Safe, Scalable Exploit Validations

IONIX transforms real-world PoCs into safe, non-intrusive test payloads that can be run in production environments without disruption. These simulations are precisely targeted to the systems that are vulnerable, ensuring rapid validation without unnecessary load.

5

Execute Exploit Validations

By combining context about software stack, versioning, exposure status, and reachability, IONIX ensures that only the right payloads are executed against the right assets, maximizing efficiency and minimizing risk.

6

Drive Fast and Actionable Remediation

Results are routed through integrations with ticketing, SOAR, and SIEM tools. Issues are written in plain language, bundled into remediation clusters, and prioritized based on asset criticality, exploitability, and blast radius. This shortens mean time to remediation (MTTR) and empowers teams to act with confidence.
