CVE-2026-57125 – Unauthenticated RCE via Jobs API & Approval Bypass – PraisonAI < 4.6.59 / praisonai

Be the first to know when new zero-days emerge:

Summary

CVE-2026-57125 is a critical, unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability in PraisonAI’s Jobs API. The flaw chains a missing-authentication issue on the job submission endpoint with a logic flaw that lets an attacker-supplied field bypass the tool-approval safety control, allowing arbitrary OS command execution on the host running PraisonAI. The issue is rated CVSS 9.8 (Critical) and requires no credentials or user interaction to exploit.

Technical details

  • Root cause: The POST /api/v1/runs Jobs API endpoint accepts a fully attacker-controlled agent_yaml workflow definition and does not require authentication. Within that YAML, a top-level approve field is processed by the workflow parser (praisonaiagents/workflows/yaml_parser.py) in a way that unconditionally marks tools — including execute_command — as pre-approved, bypassing the intended @require_approval safety decorator that is supposed to gate dangerous tool calls.
  • Trigger conditions: An attacker submits a crafted job containing an agent configuration that invokes execute_command (or another dangerous tool) along with an approve field naming that tool. No prior approval step, session, or credential is required.
  • Attack vector: Network-based, unauthenticated, single HTTP request to the Jobs API; no user interaction needed.
  • Impact: Full compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the host — the attacker can execute arbitrary operating system commands with the privileges of the PraisonAI process.

Affected software

  • praisonai (PyPI package) — versions ≤ 4.6.48 (fixed in 4.6.59)
  • praisonaiagents (PyPI package) — versions ≤ 1.6.58 (fixed in 1.6.59)

Severity

  • CVSS v3.1 Base Score: 9.8 (Critical)
  • Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • Immediate: Upgrade praisonai to version 4.6.59 or later, and praisonaiagents to version 1.6.59 or later, which remediate the authentication gap and the approval-bypass logic.
  • If patching is not immediately possible:
    • Do not expose the PraisonAI Jobs API (/api/v1/runs) directly to the internet; place it behind authentication (reverse proxy, API gateway) and restrict access to trusted networks only.
    • Remove or disable the approve field handling in workflow submissions, or restrict approve_tools to a strict allowlist of non-dangerous tools (e.g., web_search, read_file, write_file) and exclude execute_command and similar high-risk tools.
    • Monitor and alert on unauthenticated calls to the Jobs API and on unexpected use of execute_command or other shell/OS-command tools triggered via job submissions.

How IONIX’s External Exposure Management Platform Detects and Validates
Zero-Days to Shrink MTTR

1

Map your entire attack surface (continously)

IONIX uses multi-factor discovery methods, including DNS analysis, certificate mapping, metadata inspection, and more, to automatically map every internet-facing asset across your environment. This includes cloud instances, third-party platforms, shadow IT, and even forgotten infrastructure that traditional tools miss.

2

Monitor for new CVEs

Dozens of threat intel feeds using agentic technology are continuously analyzed to detect the appearance of proof-of-concept code, exploit kits, and indicators of active targeting. IONIX goes further by applying AI to proactively evaluate whether emerging vulnerabilities are likely to be exploited, even before PoCs go public.

3

Identify Potential External Exposures

Not all CVEs matter. IONIX filters vulnerabilities by asking attacker-centric questions: Can it be reached from the internet? Does it require authentication? Is it being exploited in the wild? This dramatically reduces noise and focuses teams on threats that can actually be weaponized.

4

Create Safe, Scalable Exploit Validations

IONIX transforms real-world PoCs into safe, non-intrusive test payloads that can be run in production environments without disruption. These simulations are precisely targeted to the systems that are vulnerable, ensuring rapid validation without unnecessary load.

5

Execute Exploit Validations

By combining context about software stack, versioning, exposure status, and reachability, IONIX ensures that only the right payloads are executed against the right assets, maximizing efficiency and minimizing risk.

6

Drive Fast and Actionable Remediation

Results are routed through integrations with ticketing, SOAR, and SIEM tools. Issues are written in plain language, bundled into remediation clusters, and prioritized based on asset criticality, exploitability, and blast radius. This shortens mean time to remediation (MTTR) and empowers teams to act with confidence.
