Summary

CVE-2026-60947 is a critical, easily exploitable remote code execution vulnerability in the Client Bundle component of Oracle WebCenter Enterprise Capture, part of Oracle Fusion Middleware. The flaw allows an unauthenticated attacker with network access via RMI to fully compromise the affected system, with successful exploitation resulting in complete takeover of Oracle WebCenter Enterprise Capture. The vulnerability carries a CVSS v3.1 base score of 9.8 (Critical) and was disclosed by Oracle as part of its August 2026 Critical Security Patch Update.

Technical details

  • Root cause: A flaw in the Client Bundle subcomponent of Oracle WebCenter Enterprise Capture that is reachable and exploitable over the RMI (Remote Method Invocation) protocol.
  • Trigger conditions: No authentication or user interaction is required; the attacker only needs network-level access to the exposed RMI interface of the vulnerable service.
  • Attack vector: Network (AV:N) — the vulnerability can be exploited remotely over RMI without local access, credentials, or privileges.
  • Impact: Successful exploitation can lead to complete takeover of Oracle WebCenter Enterprise Capture, with high impact to confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected system.

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • Immediate: Apply the fix provided by Oracle in the August 2026 Critical Security Patch Update for all affected installations of Oracle WebCenter Enterprise Capture (versions 12.2.1.4.0 and 14.1.2.0.0). Oracle strongly recommends applying security patches as soon as possible.
  • If patching cannot be performed immediately: Restrict network access to the RMI interfaces used by Oracle WebCenter Enterprise Capture, limiting exposure to trusted internal networks only, and ensure the service is not reachable from the internet. Monitor for anomalous RMI traffic to affected hosts as a compensating control until the patch is applied.
  • Review internet-facing assets for exposed Oracle WebCenter Enterprise Capture RMI endpoints and prioritize remediation of any publicly reachable instances.
