Summary

CVE-2026-61884 is a critical authentication bypass vulnerability (CWE-288) in the web management interface of the Tycon Systems TPDIN-Monitor-WEB2 power monitoring and control device. By submitting empty values for both credential fields, an unauthenticated remote attacker can bypass the login process entirely and gain full administrative access to the device. The vulnerability carries a CVSS v3.1 score of 9.8 (Critical) and was disclosed by CISA in ICS Advisory ICSA-26-202-01 on July 21, 2026.

Technical details

  • Root cause: The web management interface does not perform server-side validation of credentials during the login process (CWE-288: Authentication Bypass Using an Alternate Path or Channel).
  • Trigger condition: Submitting empty values for both the username and password fields is sufficient to bypass authentication and establish a valid administrative session — no credentials, tools, or prior knowledge of the target are required.
  • Attack vector: Fully remote and unauthenticated; exploitable over the network (AV:N) with no privileges required (PR:N) and no user interaction (UI:N).
  • Impact: An attacker gains complete administrative control over the device, including: power relay management (enabling disruption of connected equipment), device reboot, remote access service configuration, and network settings modification. Successful exploitation could disrupt connected infrastructure or cause physical damage to equipment.

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • No patch is available. Tycon Systems did not respond to CISA’s coordination efforts, and no vendor fix has been issued.
  • Immediate workarounds per CISA guidance:
    • Isolate affected devices from the internet and all untrusted networks immediately.
    • Place devices behind a firewall and restrict access to the management interface to authorized personnel only.
    • Where remote access is operationally required, use a VPN with strong authentication and enforce network segmentation.
    • Audit and inventory all deployed TPDIN-Monitor-WEB2 units and assess whether continued operation is justified given the absence of a remediation path.
