Summary

CVE-2026-19117 is a critical authentication bypass vulnerability (CWE-290, spoofing) in Delinea Secret Server on-premises deployments. Under specific conditions, an attacker can register an attacker-controlled FIDO2 credential against a target account and subsequently authenticate as that user, gaining full account takeover without prior credentials or user interaction. The issue carries a CVSS v3.1 base score of 9.8 (Critical) and affects on-prem installations only — cloud/SaaS deployments are not impacted.

Technical details

  • Root cause: Secret Server’s FIDO2 credential registration process does not adequately validate that a credential registration request legitimately originates from the account owner, allowing an attacker to bind their own FIDO2 authenticator to another user’s account.
  • Trigger conditions: Exploitation requires "specific conditions" during the FIDO2 registration flow (exact prerequisites not disclosed by the vendor).
  • Attack vector: Network-based; no privileges and no user interaction required (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N).
  • Impact: Full compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability — an attacker who successfully registers a spoofed FIDO2 credential can authenticate as the targeted user, potentially including privileged accounts, and access all secrets managed by that account.

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • Immediate: Upgrade to Secret Server version 12.2.7 or later.
  • Alternative hotfixes: If unable to move to 12.2.7, apply the corresponding hotfix for your branch: 12.1.3, 12.0.23, 11.9.48, 11.8.2, or 11.7.62.
  • Legacy versions: Deployments on versions prior to 11.7 are no longer supported for a direct hotfix and should be upgraded to a currently supported, patched release.
  • Review FIDO2 credential registrations on affected instances for any unrecognized or unexpected authenticators bound to sensitive accounts following patching.
