CVE-2026-83037 – Unauthenticated Remote Code Execution / Full System Compromise – Oracle WebCenter S

Be the first to know when new zero-days emerge:

Summary

CVE-2026-83037 is a critical, easily exploitable vulnerability in Oracle WebCenter Sites (a component of Oracle Fusion Middleware) that allows a completely unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to fully compromise the affected application. Oracle rates the flaw CRITICAL with a CVSS 3.1 base score of 9.8, reflecting that a successful attack can result in complete loss of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system. The vulnerability was disclosed by Oracle in its September 2026 Critical Security Patch Update.

Technical details

  • Attack vector: Network (remote), over HTTP — no direct access to the underlying host or network segment beyond standard web connectivity is required.
  • Authentication: None required (PR:N) — the attacker does not need any valid credentials or user interaction (UI:N) to exploit the flaw.
  • Complexity: Low (AC:L) — Oracle explicitly characterizes the vulnerability as "easily exploitable."
  • Impact: Successful exploitation gives the attacker complete control of Oracle WebCenter Sites, with high impact to confidentiality, integrity, and availability (C:H/I:H/A:H). This indicates the attacker can read, modify, or destroy all accessible data and disrupt service.
  • Scope: Unchanged (S:U) — the impact is confined to the vulnerable WebCenter Sites component itself, though given the product’s role as a web content management/delivery platform, compromise can expose downstream applications and data served through it.
  • Oracle’s published advisory does not disclose the specific vulnerable code path, CWE classification, or a public proof-of-concept; the technical root cause has not been independently detailed in public sources at the time of writing.

Affected software

  • Oracle WebCenter Sites 12.2.1.4.0
  • Oracle WebCenter Sites 14.1.2.0.0

Severity

  • CVSS v3.1 Base Score: 9.8 (Critical)
  • Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H

Mitigation and recommended actions

  • Immediate: Apply the Oracle patches for Oracle WebCenter Sites released in the September 2026 Critical Security Patch Update. Organizations running 12.2.1.4.0 or 14.1.2.0.0 should upgrade/patch to the fixed versions specified in Oracle’s advisory as soon as possible, given the unauthenticated, network-exploitable nature of this flaw.
  • If immediate patching is not possible:
    • Restrict network access to Oracle WebCenter Sites management and application interfaces to trusted networks only (e.g., via firewall rules, VPN, or network segmentation) to reduce exposure to unauthenticated remote attackers.
    • Place WebCenter Sites instances behind a web application firewall (WAF) and monitor for anomalous or unauthenticated requests targeting the application.
    • Review internet exposure of all Oracle WebCenter Sites instances and prioritize patching of any instance directly reachable from the internet.
  • Continue to monitor Oracle’s security alert page and the September 2026 Critical Security Patch Update advisory for any updates, additional guidance, or indicators of active exploitation.

How IONIX’s External Exposure Management Platform Detects and Validates
Zero-Days to Shrink MTTR

1

Map your entire attack surface (continously)

IONIX uses multi-factor discovery methods, including DNS analysis, certificate mapping, metadata inspection, and more, to automatically map every internet-facing asset across your environment. This includes cloud instances, third-party platforms, shadow IT, and even forgotten infrastructure that traditional tools miss.

2

Monitor for new CVEs

Dozens of threat intel feeds using agentic technology are continuously analyzed to detect the appearance of proof-of-concept code, exploit kits, and indicators of active targeting. IONIX goes further by applying AI to proactively evaluate whether emerging vulnerabilities are likely to be exploited, even before PoCs go public.

3

Identify Potential External Exposures

Not all CVEs matter. IONIX filters vulnerabilities by asking attacker-centric questions: Can it be reached from the internet? Does it require authentication? Is it being exploited in the wild? This dramatically reduces noise and focuses teams on threats that can actually be weaponized.

4

Create Safe, Scalable Exploit Validations

IONIX transforms real-world PoCs into safe, non-intrusive test payloads that can be run in production environments without disruption. These simulations are precisely targeted to the systems that are vulnerable, ensuring rapid validation without unnecessary load.

5

Execute Exploit Validations

By combining context about software stack, versioning, exposure status, and reachability, IONIX ensures that only the right payloads are executed against the right assets, maximizing efficiency and minimizing risk.

6

Drive Fast and Actionable Remediation

Results are routed through integrations with ticketing, SOAR, and SIEM tools. Issues are written in plain language, bundled into remediation clusters, and prioritized based on asset criticality, exploitability, and blast radius. This shortens mean time to remediation (MTTR) and empowers teams to act with confidence.
